About Us

The Wing-It Singers is a world music choir of around 35 people with an eclectic repertoire ranging from Georgian polyphony to English folk, renaissance Spanish part-songs to contemporary compositions and many languages and genres besides.

We sing in three- or four-part harmony, mostly unaccompanied. Songs are taught at a moderate pace by ear. From time to time the choir has sessions with visiting tutors from Georgia, Bulgaria, etc.

We perform regularly at the beautiful St Matthias church in Stoke Newington, which is also our main rehearsal space. But also on stages at community events, outdoor festivals, art galleries, weddings, folk clubs and in bars. We have performed at the Jaqueline du Pré Hall in Oxford, and the National Gallery, Hackney Empire and the South Bank in London.

From time to time we do an exchange visit with another choir. In 2018 we went to Tuscany and shared a concert with DaltroCanto in the chiesa di Sant’Agostino in San Gimignano. We hosted the Choeur de Haute-Vilaine just before lockdown and will make a return visit to Brittany in May 2023.

The choir has been led by Sally Davies since 2001.
