Voices That Wander

Sunday 7 July 2024, Clapton Round Chapel, 3.30pm. Tickets £15. Buy tickets

Voices That Wander is a choral project which explores traditional songs in Ladino, the language of Mizrahi and Sephardi Jews who fled the inquisitions. In this special performance with Songs We Carry, we will be celebrating interconnected Jewish and Arabic music of the Middle East and North Africa.

We will perform beautiful new arrangements of traditional Ladino songs by Sally Davies and brand new choral compositions by composer Lydia Samuels, inspired by traditional Ladino music. We will be joined by guest soloists Ana Silvera, Miriam Gould, Jaka Škapin, David Ridley, and Rosalie Warner.

Adding to the rich tapestry of the event, Palestinian oud master and singer Saied Silbak and British singer/songwriter and composer Ana Silvera will perform songs from their collaborative project, Songs We Carry. This musical journey delves into the interconnectedness of Arabic and Ladino music, drawing on the artists’ respective heritages, all elegantly reimagined with a twist.

In a unique collaboration, the Wing-It Singers will join Songs We Carry for a fresh arrangement of an Arabic classic. Additionally, the afternoon will feature a special performance by students from Hanover and School 21 primary schools, showcasing their original choral piece created in collaboration with Lydia Samuels.

Trip to Brittany

A group of Wing-It Singers have just returned from Brittany where we completed our ‘choir exchange’ with the Choeur de Haute Vilaine.

We had a wonderful time being looked after by very lovely French hosts, and we sang together in the church of Noyal-sur-Vilaine, near Rennes.

Here are some photos from our trip.
